The second most important
step will be to contact your family and friends. You will need their
help.
|
Contact family members immediately. They need to know, plus they
will probably be able to think more clearly than the mother or
father and may be able to better deal with the media.
Contact friends and neighbors who can help. You probably know at
least one "type A" personality, a "take-charge"
person who can provide direction to you, your family, the police,
and the media. Ask them to lead the search effort (if you even have
to ask). It worked for us.
If you have relatives in surrounding communities or states, ask
them to contact their local media to get word of the Amber Alert
out. The media may be interested in the "local connection"
for this story.
|
Use whatever community, political, social, religious, or
work-related connections you may have. If you know someone famous or
important, contact them - they will know other important people who
can get things done quickly or help spread the news. Contact the
mayor or governor to help. Requesting that the mayor ask everyone to
please look around their neighborhoods is appropriate.
Use the power of the Internet. Emailed messages and images (see Get
the Word Out) can be distributed to hundreds/thousands of
people quickly and easily.
